Pangio unknown 01
Summary
Scientific name: Pangio unknown 01
Common name: Panda Kuhli Loach, Panda Coolie Loach
Synonyms: Unknown
Distribution: Thailand
Sexual Dimorphism: Females are likely to look noticeably plumper when loaded with eggs like other Pangio species
Maximum size: 3.25 inches (8.25 cm)
Similar to: Pangio anguilliris, Pangio doriae
Care: All Kuhli Loaches need well-established aquaria and should not be considered for newly set up tanks. These fish are best kept on a fine sand substrate in order to protect the delicate barbel area when they forage about for food. Numerous hiding places should be provided in the form of rocks, bogwood and live aquatic plants. Some aquarists even use Indian Almond Leaves (Terminalia catappa) to simulate the leaf litter that lines the beds of the waters they are found in. Best kept in groups of 5 or more due to social nature.
Feeding: Sinking catfish pellets, micropellets, flake, small frozen foods such as daphnia and mosquito larvae.
Water parameters: pH: 6.5-7.5 Hardness: Soft to medium Max dh: 5 - 12
Temperature: 77ºF to 82ºF (25-28°C)
Breeding: This species has not been bred in aquaria.
Notes
This is thought to be a relatively new species that has been introduced to the hobby (Autumn 2006). The collector is based in Thailand and the actual supplier is currently awaiting a description of the species by experts in this field.
Panda Kuhli Loaches are an active species that are out and about during daylight hours, and do not seem to be phased by fairly strong aquarium lighting. They are always on the go, searching out any tidbits of food that may have been missed. These fish mix well with other small, peaceful fish species.
